In All Things Erika, EMPTY ARMS: a novel, Reviews
West Philly Chick Lit Book Club

That’s Michelle on the far left.

Every once in a while you meet someone who has so much energy and enthusiasm for what they’re doing that you just know that person is going places. I met one such young woman at a recent book club meeting in West Philadelphia where we were discussing Empty ArmsMichelle Wilson introduced herself me to as a Public Relations student at Drexel University. (Little known fact: I was very close to attending Drexel for similar studies). She told me that before reading Empty Arms she had been totally unaware of the past plight of unwed pregnant teen girls, and she asked me if she could interview me for her website. I saw in her the same desire to understand the birth mother experience that I felt when I first heard about maternity homes and forced adoptions. Of course, I said YES! What resulted was not only a very insightful interview that explores some of my “behind the scenes” writerly intentions, but also a very observant book review that illustrates just how complicated life got for some of the young girls who were forced to give up their babies and shamed into keeping massive secrets. I hope you’ll check it out…
