With the clocks now set an hour earlier, my 5 a.m. writing sessions have really become 4 a.m. writing sessions, which, as you can imagine, has made it that much harder to get out of bed in the morning. Of course, springing ahead in time, while painful the first few days, always pays off with a little extra sunshine after work. And who doesn’t love a little extra sunshine after work?
Winston Churchill said that Daylight Savings Time enlarges “the opportunities for the pursuit of health and happiness among millions of people.”
When the weather warms a bit, we usually spend the extended daylight hours hitting the local hiking trails after work. We’re very fortunate to live in Pennsylvania, where scenic hiking trails are abundant. As a nature lover, there’s nothing like a peaceful a forest or the flow of river water to calm the mind and soul after a long day of telephones ringing and e-mails pinging.
All this talk of hiking has got me thinking too. For a while now I have wanted to go on a Peekaboo slot canyon hiking trip in Utah. Perhaps now could be the right time to get something booked? We all love outdoor adventures in our house so I do not think it would take much to convince everyone to join me, as long as we all get our Teton Sports gear ready. Have you ever been on a hiking trip? Let me know in the comments below as I would love to hear your tips.
Anyway, I hope these longer days translate into health and happiness for you too!
How will you be spending your longer days?
The time change this year (and the millions of thoughts stampeding through my brain) has completely thrown me off. I can’t sleep at night and my schedule is completely out of whack. But! I am still writing. It might not be under the most ideal circumstances or at the usual appointed timed, but I am making sure it gets done – even if it as at 3 AM!
