In Face Your Fears

Do you tend to get down on your dreams from time to time? If so, it’s not surprising. After all, negative thinking exists all around us. It’s easier to be judgmental, cynical and close-minded than it is to step out of your comfort zone and open your mind to new possibilities.

According to author and creative entrepreneur, SARK, “creative dreams need expansion, and negative thinking is a contraction.” To break free from negative thinking she recommends writing 3 negative statements about your dream and then reframing them in a positive light. For example:

Being a Writer:
1. It’s very difficult to get published.
2. Writers are born with a unique voice – there’s no use in trying to develop one.
3. Very few agents are willing to take risks on emerging writers.

Reframe:
1. It’s easy to get published.
2. It’s exciting to find ways to develop talents as a writer.
3. There are lots of agents who are eager to discover new talent.

Try this with your dream. Take three negative statements that have been poisoning your dreams and reframe them. SARK says it doesn’t even matter if you believe those reframed statements or not. The key is to break free from the negative thinking habit. “If you practice thinking differently, you will begin to have experiences that reflect your new way of thinking.”

What are some of your newly reframed thoughts?
