Many of us know that the leading cause of the Trojan War was the abduction of Helen of Troy by the young Greek hero, Paris. But do you know why Paris abducted her in the first place? Today, I bring you the story of Aphrodite (the goddess of love) and Paris…
“The Judgment of Paris” was a contest between the three most beautiful Olympian goddesses – Aphrodite, Hera and Athena – for the prize of a golden apple addressed to “the fairest”.
Each goddess offered Paris a bribe. Aphrodite offered him the love the most beautiful woman in the world, and Paris awarded her a golden apple as reward.
The beautiful woman turned out to be Helen of Troy. The subsequent abduction of Helen led directly to the Trojan War and the fall of the city.
