In Be Happier, For Dream Chasers

Is there a better version of yourself that exists in your mind? A vision of who you will be…someday? Maybe this person is healthier? Happier? Better at balancing all the demands of a hectic life? More accomplished? More altruistic? Wealthier?

My version sounds something like this…Someday, I’ll be a person who doesn’t veg out to mind-numbing reality shows after work; who doesn’t eat dinner in front of the TV. Someday, I’ll read more and spend lots of time outdoors. Someday, I’ll have more time for my other creative passions, like photography and painting. Someday, I’ll find time to write and exercise every day. Someday, I’ll make time to volunteer. Someday, someday, someday…

I’m not sure if it’s the arrival of spring or the fact that my novel is almost complete, but I’ve grown tired of waiting for someday. I’ve realized that someday will never come unless I start making changes today.

This idea has motivated me to stop waiting and break free from my bad habits. It’s sparked a new era of walking by the river after work, eating dinner on the patio, reaching for a book instead of the remote, grabbing my camera and heading to new places, waking up an hour earlier to work on my manuscript and responding to an ad for volunteers.

Each change was small and simple to make but when you put them together, the result was big; profound. Time passes a little slower, my days are more fulfilling and happiness runs deep. For the first time, someday isn’t one day in the distant future.

It’s today.

I love this post, Ericka! That sounds exactly like what I say about myself. Someday I’ll do this, someday I’ll do that.
